English in Advertising
Adverts are great for learning English in a visual and for TV ads, auditory way. Firstly they're short, so even if you have the attention span of a goldfish, you'll manage to concentrate all the way through. They're designed to be memorable and they're often very funny. I can remember jingles and phrases from my childhood. If only I could say the same about calculus or algebra!
So, here's a selection of adverts. I've transcribed the text, so that you can check your comprehension, but try to watch the ad first and then read the transcript.
Enjoy!

English in the News
Have you ever read a headline in a newspaper, or seen an advert and wondered what on earth they were going on about?
Even if your English is pretty good, you can get confused by some of the "creative" ways headline writers or ad copy writers play with English.
Double meanings, double-entendre, puns and cultural references can leave you scratching your head in confusion. The real meaning can be lost in cultural references that might be missed, even by an advanced learner.
Here we are going to attempt to explain some of the interesting ways English can be used, played with or generally abused, to put across a point or just to make something amusing.
So, if you come across a headline in the news and you're not sure of the meaning, post it here and we'll help you out.
