'Fish In A Poke, Luv' is the Sun headline referring to a story that fish and chip shops are helping to keep Britain's regional dialects alive. A survey found that Britons use at least 26 different words for fish and chips. A portion of chips is a 'poke' in Glasgow but a 'bechdan' in Wales. A meal of fish and chips is 'fish and nerks' in Leeds but a 'fish lot' in the North East. This is confusing for native speakers, never mind visitors to our shores.
